My school is called Bentley Wood High School. It is in Stanmore. My school is really small and has three floors but the top floor is getting fixed after the fire we had at my school. My school day starts at 8:40 and ends at 3:10. I have six lessons a day except for Wednesdays where I have seven. I study Spanish, English, maths, science, geography, history, ICT, Physical education and religious studies. At School I eat salad, pizza and pasta. My Spanish teacher is very nice and she is a good teacher. Most days during break I catch up on homework but sometimes I just like to talk to my friends. My school uniform is green; I hate the colour of it because we look like trees. School uniform is good because you don’t have to think about what you are going to wear the next day however you can’t express your individuality. My ideal uniform would be no uniform. My ideal school would have a swimming pool. My plans after I leave Bentley Wood are that I go to college/ sixth form then hopefully I will go to university. I prefer Science because it is interesting however I hate maths because it is boring. I like Wednesdays because I have the most interesting lessons. The term I like best is the summer term because it is nice and hot and most of the teachers relax because the exams are over. I would rather go to a mixed school because I don’t like girls but I don’t mind now.

Mi uniforme ideal no sería ningún uniforme.

There are a few things wrong:

- Should be -

Thats the basics.. still some errors you have but that should be ok :)

Need help with some World Fair Lesson Plans…?

July 312009

I have to write 5 lesson plans for a thematic unit on the Worlds Fair in Chicago which took place in 1893. My part in the thematic unit is social studies. This is for one of my Elementary Education college classes and its suppose to be directed towards a 4th grade class. Can anyone help me with some ideas or give me some links to some places? Thanks!

Take a look at "The Devil In the White City" by Erik Larsen. It’s well-researched and documented and deals pretty extensively with the social transformation as people, especially young adults, flooded to Chicago from rural areas.

Lesson plan for private music teachers?

July 312009

I have experience of teaching before, but now I am doing it on a more professional basis, and I wondered if anyone out there had any tips on what they do in their lessons? I have started with warming up, then going onto pieces - afterwards concentrating on something like tone or expression. I teach adults at the moment, but I’ll eventually be teaching children too.

I used a similar structure when teaching.

Warm up - few exercises. Then I reviewed what they’d done the previous lesson. Played the scales they’d been practicing and the pieces they’d been learning. See if they had any questions or concerns about the previous week. Picking up any points from what they’d been practicing and working on areas that were weaker. Then give them new things to work on for the next week (but depending on what needed work from the previous week).

I always gave a summary sheet at the end including things to practice for the week ahead, so they had a written record (some of my adults found it easy to forget what they were supposed to be practicing!

It varies a great deal from student to student, so just get stuck in and good luck!

How do I calm my nerves during a driving lesson?

I can hardly go out on a driving lesson because im so nervous so i don’t take anything in and I have to go through the same things over and over. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on how to calm myself?

Talk to yourself… either under ur breath, or in your head, and basically just do that to distract yourself from the nerves, e.g.

- Do a run through of where all the controls are

- comment on what other drivers / cyclists / pedestrians around you are doing, such as:
"what you waiting for? bloody christmas?"
or "sure you can’t get your car any further up me arse?"
or "come on, ya can get a bloody tank through that gap"
or "where’s that prat on the bike going? can I accelerate past yet? oops, no, not quite…."
or "hurry up you old bat!"
or "oh, brilliant, a cyclist" / "oh, brilliant, horses to tippy toe past".

- comment on where your going + what you’re doing, e.g,
"right, where’s that next turning?"
"left bit, right bit"
"Right, need to start indicatingggg…………… here!"
"oops, b*llocks, missed it!"
"oops, need to slow down a bit ‘ere"

Do you know any good guitar lesson websites that are free and good for beginners?

July 312009

first year math and science teacher seeking help with lesson plans. could anybody share their plans with me?

July 312009

Yes. If you wanted to use real estate investment as a simple math lesson, you might look at the gross rent multiplier and cap rates.
These are arithmetic ways to determine property sales prices and yields on investment.
A good simple explanation of both can be found on the wikipedia.org site.
Another choice might be to take a simple calculation from the mortgage transaction and create math questions about points and fees and interest rates. This would involve percentages, fractions and basic arithmetic analysis
I hope this helps

What are specific lessons that should be learned working in a group?

Working in a group of 5 people, what lessons are typically learned when working and completing a project?

1) The value of team work
2) Synergy - the dynamic that occurs when everyone works to a common purpose.
3) Listening with respect; no one interrupts a speaker.
4) Everyone is entitled to their point of view, no one has to necessarily agree with it.
5) All ideas/contributions are written on a whiteboard for later review.
6) All contributions are reviewed when no more ideas are forthcoming.

Each idea is discussed using For and Against acceptance.

Agree a trial period for each accepted suggestion.
Working . . .
T - together
E - everyone
A - achieves
M - miracles.

It’s called Team Work.

How do I create a lesson plan?

July 312009

I have to create a mock lesson plan for ESL students (as part of a job interview). Those students are Japanese adults who have had about 5 years of basic English education, but are still considered beginners. I have no idea where to start or how to go about picking a topic for a lesson plan, and I was hoping someone with a little ESL-teaching background could help.

The lesson plan has to be 30 mins long, and I’ll have to roleplay 5 mins of it with the other people in the group interview. More specifically, I have to focus on conversation with a lot of interaction between students. If anyone has any input or suggestions, I’d appreciate it.

Set up a mock of teaching your students job interview skills.
This will make you stand out in the interview process.

Start by teaching students about professional resumes and the importance of them, give them a sample. Then

Pair the students up and give them a list of questions that they might encounter during an interview process. After a few minutes have them switch roles and then move around the room. It helps get you acclimated to talking to different people, with different accents, as not everyone in America speaks American English clearly. I am in a Speech class in college and our Speech instructor is going over interviews with us as well. He did this with us last week and next week we will do an interview with him. We have to make mock resumes and sit with him through an interview. Sitting with the other students who were new at this was a great help in preparing to speak with him. I hope this helps.
