Al Qaeda not In Iraq…

Obama was a Harvard student….Could Obama make a gaffe that could get the USA in trouble ?
@Ethel M : Al Qaida is not in Afghanistan, Al Qaida is an international entity….Can you catch the wind in a bottle ?
@@Ethel M : I mean Al Qaida is only in Afghanistan.
@@Ethel M : Al Qaida is not only in Afghanistan…
@Ethel M : And what do you think about Auschwitz ? Are you honest ?

Obama has demonstrated no profound understanding of today’s important foriegn policy issues.
He’s obviously creating his "ideas" on the fly and counting on fooling the voters who are even less interested in foriegn policy then he is.
As President this man would be an embarassment.

Math and Science in a Friendship Thematic Unit?

August 302009

I am doing a thematic unit on friendship–I have come up with several activities for social studies, and one or two for math but I need to have five lesson plans in each of those areas. Do you have any ideas of lessons I could use in math and science that would fit into my frienship theme? It is for the kindergarten level.

For math - maybe sharing? I realize that fractions are a bit much for that age group, but they can probably grasp the idea of two people sharing equal halves of something.

As far as science goes, maybe you could talk about the ways science has made it easier for people to keep in touch with their friends. Cell phones, email, planes - all the results of science.

what is a good daily routine for music class?

August 302009

I teach elementary music k-5. I’m looking for a good routine to follow for each class. something like first five minutes-warm-up, next old song, new song, rhythm. Just something that I can follow, will make the classes more structured, and will help me organize my lesson plans.

For the warm ups, you can start by doing the do re mi scales. Then do things to loosen up the tongue, like tongue twisters. I used to know a really good one that started off like "Which witch is the wicked witch…" and I forget the rest. If this is the type of thing you’re looking for, I can ask my friend, I know for a fact he remembers it.

I’m not sure what you mean by next old song, new song, but rhythms is pretty easy to do. You can get some stick things (I think they have an actual name, all I know is my old teacher had them) and have the kids sit in a circle, taking turns making up beats using their sticks and the floor while the rest repeated.

This is where they ahve all of their instructional DVD’s. Look through what they ahve, and hopefully you can get the one that’s right for you.

What extra classes or lessons should Filipino parents enrol their children in?

Assuming money is not problem, what would be good extracurriculars for kids? Piano lessons, ballet, martial arts? What would you suggest?

we can’t force a kids to enroll them in something they won’t have a talent for… but for the things that can be forced but would be for their own good:

swimming lessons - swimming is an in-born skill in every human, those who can’t swim just fear drowning. it also reduces the risk of pulmonary diseases like asthma.

soccer camp - i like this because it’s a rich man’s sport from where i come from, and at the lowest level of the game (kiddie soccer), there’s nothing wrong if a kid doesn’t have a talent for sports… it’s builds stamina. besides, i don’t completely agree that martial arts develops discipline… it’s about parenting that anything else.

ballet (for girls) - rather than waiting for a girl to grow up just to build finesse in some john robert powers class, ballet lessons early on could have done the trick.

painting/drawing/art class - it’s quite easier activating the right side of the brain this way than any musical instrument which does require the kid’s approval… a skill for instruments can’t be forced. this one is like playing around at first, then it gets developed.

foreign language - if Chinese schools here teach Mandarin to its students, why wait for kids of non-Chinese schools to learn something else ’til they’re high school or college? personally, it’s a choice between Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Japanese.

What is the best lesson plan for teaching yourself a language?

August 302009

Well, I plan on trying to learn 5 languages before I turn 20, that’s 6 years from now, and I would like to know how to approach it. And when I say lesson plan, please be specific, something like
Week One : Voc building
Week Two : Beginner’s grammar, nouns
Week Three: Beginner’s grammar, verbs…etc.

And the five languages are:
Spanish
French
Japanese
Igbo
Italian

First thing is to define what you mean by learn a language. For the purpose of this, I would suggest that you define learn a language as the ability to read a newspaper in the language and understand the majority of it. I use that as the definition since communication on a social level in a language takes a long time, but the ability to read, understand, and speak could be done in a shorter period of time.

Ok, thinking about the lesson plan, the first thing I would do is define where you are, and what language you have access to learn in social situations. For the purpose of this, I am going to assume you are in the US, which means that Spanish is probably the best language to start with. It is the 2nd most widely spoken language in the US. Then from Spanish, I would move to Italian (I am fluent in English and Spanish, and based on my spanish, I can get a pretty good idea of Italian), which should make it relatively easy to work with. From there, I would go into the 3rd of the romance languages on your list which is French. That will give you a good base of the romance languages. They have similar alphabets to the English language, which should make them easier to learn. Then, from there, it is a toss up. I am not at all familiar with Igbo, but I reviewed their alphabet, and it looks more similar to the English language which means it should be easier to grasp than Japanese. Finally, you will have your mind trained enough in learning languages that the extra challenges of Japanese alphabet, sounds, etc. should work better for you.

As for lesson plans within the language, there are 4 main language learning skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). My learning plan would be to study a new situation each week (ie: Go to the Bank, Purchase tickets for a movie, etc).
Day 1) Review the vocabulary for that lesson.
Day 2) Work on reading documents within that situation.
Day 3) Work on writing on that subject
Day 4) Try to speak on the subject
Day 5) Try to Listen on the subject

I would do it in that order since first you need the vocabulary, then reading, you can identify the vocabulary used by others, then, you need to come up with the vocabulary on your own by writing, then just focus on the speaking of what you have written to work on pronunciation, and finally listening.

I am hopeful that this is useful. You have a challenging goal in front of you. Good luck.

Where can I find lesson plans for drum lessons?

August 302009

I am a drum teacher and I need to find a few worksheets/lesson plans for more advanced students. Any websites with PDF downloads, or at least viewable information I can copy for lessons? Thanks!

The most efficient way to teach drums, especially to newbies is to use drum books.

Order your students to purchase a dru book and guide them through it.

A good book to start drumming with is "Learn to play the drums" by Andrew Agutters.

There are 4 books to the series.

Hope this helped.
