Where can I find good 2nd grade math lesson plans and activities?

December 312011

I’m looking for a lesson plan and activities for this…..

TEKS/Student Expectations: (2.10) The student uses standard tools to estimate and measure time and temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit).
The student is expected to:
A.Read a thermometer to gather data;
B.Read and write times shown on analog and digital clocks using five-minute increments; and
C.Describe activities that take approximately one second, one minute, and one hour.

Thank You!!!

Do a google search for all three! There are lots of lesson plans on the web, but not all in one place, and I’m sure these topics are covered somewhere…

Or, mabye just start with asking what students already know about the topics (or when they have encountered similar tasks in their everyday lives or in school) and starting an intro discussion, give students background info as needed, explain the tasks, put them into pairs and set them to work, and have a brief sharing of answers and discussion of concepts and results. There could be three stations and student pairs could move from one to the next until all tasks are done, and before the sharing of results, students could record their answers on the board. You can write the standard being tested on the board before th students come into class and use that as the starting point to the lesson.

After how many lessons of driving should you get insured and start going out driving with a parent?

I have had 8 lessons and my instructor is suggesting I start going driving with a parent, getting more practice in. Is this the normal amount of time?

There is no normal amount of time, but the time to do this is when your instructor says so. Remember that when driving with your parents the person sitting next to you will not have dual controls and so cannot brake for you in an emergency, so your instructor must be happy with your progress before suggesting this course of action.

How will the lessons you have learned in you General 105 course help in completing your program?

Were any of the lessons useful for your current job? Why or why not?

Make me to know thy ways, O LORD;
teach me thy paths.
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me,
for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long.
Be mindful of thy mercy, O LORD, and of thy steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.

What is the "hook and closure" in a lesson plan?

December 72011

I am taking an education class and I am writing a lesson plan. I have my unit topic, alignment to standards, instructional strategies… but it also specifies including the hook and closure to my lesson. I can’t remember what that means exactly. I can’t find it in my book or online. Would you be able to help me? Thank You!

Hunter’s "anticipatory set" is sometimes called a "hook" to grab the student’s attention, e.g., "Has anybody visited the…?" (connect to prior knowledge)

Just remember fishing "hook." It "grabs" the fish. Bait and hook might be a little more accurate.

Closure is when you wrap up a lesson plan and help students organize the information into a meaningful context in their minds. (e.g., summary/short discussion to clarify)
