What are my chances of getting into Duke University?

March 52010

I’m a junior in high school right now, my high school transcript is:

Sophomore Year
-Pre-AP Calculus and Trigonometry (B, A)
-AP World History (A, A) (5, score for AP Test)
-Pre-AP English II (A, A)

I scored a 32 on the ACT and a 2250 on the SAT, I plan to take AP test for U.S. Gov, Lit&Comp, and calculus BC. I’m pretty confident in getting a 4 or 5 on each of those.

Next Year I’m taking AP Humanities, AP Physics, AP European History, Advance Debate, AP Psychology, Chinese III, (and one semester of College Calculus III through William Jewell College, provided the credit will transfer to Duke University). I will most likely take each of those AP test as well. I plan on volunteering at several different affiliations in the next year and I’ll be the captain/head varsity of my debate team, as well as almost guaranteed a national spot due to the majority of my competition this year graduating. I also plan on trying to join the Duke Debate Team if I’m accepted. I hope to apply early decision if my chances of acceptance are strong. Any Suggestions that might help?
Also I plan on majouring in Political Science and Philosophy

Spencer, congrats on the 5 in AP World History. At my score, the passing rates are abysmal and hardly anyone gets a 3!!!

I don’t have any suggestions for you. You seem to know what you’re doing. Applying early decision will definitely increase your chances of getting in, although I think that they’d be crazy if they didn’t take you.

Yay! You’re earning college credits!

Do I still have a chance with him?

January 302010

So about 3 or 4 months ago now, we had a new seating plan in my geography class. I was moved near to this guy who I never met before. There was alot of flirty glances going on, and then one lesson he passed me a not (sort of childish yet, but some how cute at the same time). We met up after school. He wanted me to go talk to him in the boys bathroom, and we spent about 15 minutes texting with him inside and me outside, refusing to go in. In the end he realised I was not going into the boys bathroom regardless of who was or wasnt in there. He had a detention and so we walked there together and talked. In class with his friends he seems loud, confident and cheeky, but by himself he was awkward and sweet. I went home and texted him what was he doing after detention. He said nothing and so we met up, just the two of us. We were sat in some bushes in the park and we sort of made out. He wanted to do more than that, and usually I would and I don’t know why I didn’t. I guess maybe I really felt for him, and wanted him to respect me, not just for a bit of fun. He realised that I wasnt easy and I told him that. He also told me that there was this other girl who he had liked for ages. I told him he needed to make a desicion, and he wasn’t going to lead me along. he told me he needed to think. That night he told me on facebook that he chose the other girl. He was very apologetic about it. He also confided in me who she was and begged me not to tell anybody, even though I don’t know her myself. We agreed to be friends still though, even though we hadnt know each other before that day. I didn’t tell anybody, and about 2 weeks later, he did get with her. Their relationship lasted about 3 weeks. I don’t know why they split. Despite the fact we said that we would still be friends, we haven’t spoken since. At first we smiled when we saw each other at school, but now even that has gone. We don’t even exchange glances anymore in geography.

I still like him. Do I have a chance still? Should I tell him that I still feel for him?
I honestly don’t think he was just looking for sex, and I have met alot of guys who are,
This was all about 3 or 4 months ago now, and so its not like him and the other girl only just broke up

Help with my Career…………..? Please Help (Read Description Please)…?

January 152010

Hi, I took this online test thing which was reccomend to me and my restult was
ISTJ
Strength of prefrences %
17 12 12 56

then there was a link saying somethink like View the recommended career’s for you…..
and I clicked it and here they are:

Management
Administrative Management
Accounting

Computer Programming
Technology Education

Physician(Surgery)
Dentist/Dental Assistant

Law
Military Training
Security Services

I definatly dont want to do Law for various reasons and Im not really that clever in Maths and english so I dont think Managment is my thing. I thought about being a Surgeon or somethink or a GP or somethink like that but I just dont think it’s me. I like computers and I have a few awards and stuff but thats just from School, I enoy computers and I know a bit but I want somethink more exciting, In my school when i was a younger, when the Teachers do there PPA time (dont know what it stands for but its were they plan the lessons…) we did ICT and History & Geography on the day, I thought about being a PPA coverage teacher for ICT (History & Geographty aren’t my thing either) but then I thought is it me though. What do you think I should go for. You’re probably thinking but I dont know you, just answer by looking at my test results and reading what I wrote, you guys know whats best.

One more thing I dont really want to be poor, I want a nice family a nice job and a nice car and
all nice things (’if you know what I mean’)

….thanks guys … would mean quite a lot to me.

Oh good, you took the test I suggested. :)

Out of those, you’re probably best suited for military training, security services. These things would probably be pleasurable for you because I believe you said your father is a cop. You get a lot of your preferences from your parents.

looking for a lesson plan for pre kindergateners?

October 262009

i am looking to teach my child all the stuff she needs to know to enter into kindergaten next year. i wanted to draw up a lesson plan for monday- friday an hour a day to teach her everything she needs to know. but i am not sure what to do everyday and what she needs to know. such as math, reading, writing, geography, languages. not sure what is taught in pre k at schools. we are in quebec too so im not sure if it makes a difference please help.

The best you can do is go to a local school and ask about their kindergarten curriculum. Every school is different, so it’ll be even better if you go to a school where you plan to enroll your child later.

Help please! I don’t expect someone to…. continued.?

October 242009

I don’t expect someone to fully answer these all for me, but Earth Science is a very weak subject for me and i’d like to do well. So if someone could at least help me out by eliminating one or two wrong answers that would amazing. Thank you all very much. Have a wonderful day and God bless.

c. It is lifting caused by convection currents.

d. It is lifting caused by the jet stream.

5. How do cold fronts produce stormy weather?

a. Warm moist air ahead of the front is uplifted as the front passes, causing the moisture to condense and precipitate.

b. Cold air behind the front causes the water vapor to evaporate, producing the storm.

c. The warm air mixes with the cold air along the front, creating low pressure and storms.

d. The cold air holds more water vapor than the warm air, thus it must precipitate out as rain or snow.

You want to steal credit by copying answers to questions you don’t understand well enough to do yourself. That’s immoral; cheating, and stealing from your classmates the value of their grades by making them meaningless.

Shame on you!

BTW, there is no God.

David Sirota: Jim Greer, GOP “Are A Bunch Of Psychopaths”

September 102009

On the day the text of President Obama’s speech to schoolchildren is released without “lesson plans”, Jim Greer again appears on CNN’s “Campbell Brown” show and upholds what he said earlier in the day on “The Situation Room.”

This time, however, Jim had company, as sub host John Robetrs welcomed alternate views from John Avlon and David Sirota. Avlon suggested Greer was “trying to spin a victory and do a ‘CYA’ move.” “It was an attempt to… turn the President into a fearful figure, and that’s shameful,” he said. And Sirota took Greer to task for criticizing Obama’s speech, and said that “parents who tuned into this speech because of the hysteria by people like Jim greer, are gonna read this speech, and realize that the Jim Greers of the world… are a bunch of psychopaths to try to make this into a giant controversy about socialist indoctrination.”

Does anyone else feel sorry for the kids of conservatives?

September 72009

It’s bad enough that their parents are unintelligent…but now they will force them to stay home from school. The kids don’t have a snowballs chance in hell.

Let’s not even start on the ones that home-school their kids. Today’s lesson plan: Flat Earth Geography, Fox News Recess, and Obama is the devil and/or antichrist.

Poor kids…should we start a charity for them?

I was a child of conservatives, and let me tell you, your gross stereotyping is ridiculous. My parents are agnostic (so, no Flat Earth BS nor any devil/antichrist talk) and we didn’t have cable tv (so, no Fox News).

Also, I graduated second in my high school class and first in my class from the largest civil engineering department in the US, so thinking we are all unintelligent hillbillies is absurd and quite rude.

I don’t need nor want anyone’s charity. I was raised to believe that you are responsible for taking care of yourself. And guess what? I do.
