I done quite a few lessons, i was doing lessons for a few months, my instructor told me when she thought i was ready.
i didnt pass 1st time, 2nd time or 3rd, but when i was with my instructor i could drive really well, i was calm, and i would just .. drive, all my instructor basically done was tell me where to go as i didnt really need many pointers, but as soon as i got in the car with the examiner i was a bag of nerves, i would be ok, very nervous but ok, and as soon as i thought i had done something wrong, everything else went wrong and i failed on something stupid.
so all i need to do now, is sort my nerves out and i will actually pass :)
if you feel ready, book it up and get as many lessons as possible in the area before the test.

I had I think 12 hours of classroom instruction and 3 on-road driving lessons of about an hour each. I passed the first time, but I had a big mistake that took off a bunch of points but I still scraped by (some guy started walking across a four-way stop from the other side while I was just starting to go and the grader said I should have stopped in the middle of the intersection to let him by rather than go through ahead of him.) Anyway, if you are doing the lessons in another car, make sure you do a lot of practice in the car you will be taking the test in. I had problems because the driving instructor taught me these great tricks with the driver’s-ed car that didn’t work in my car because the turning radius was different. Actually, when I did the "parallel parking trick" exactly the same in my father’s car, It caused me to break his headlight because it turned in so much quicker.

35 lessons, passed my theory 1st time and passed my practical 2nd time, whether that is good or bad I don’t know, but I’ve been driving 8 years and had no accidents which were my fault touch wood.

I had about a year’s worth of lessons with three different instructors, but only had tests with my last instructor. I passed theory first time and practical 4th time.
