Why did school history lessons start with the Normans and not the Saxon kings?

There was reference to the last Saxon King - king Harold, and perhaps King Alfred was mentioned in passing, but it seems English primary school history lessons treat the Saxon kings somewhat harshly. What do others think?

I researched for two days on this and came up blank for the "most part". I don’t normally spend so much time on "two" points. What did seem apparent is that this was an oppressed time for the English. I offer a few links below that may assist in determining in your own mind that this oppression was not accepted well and therefore a time that would like to be forgotten by as many Englishmen as possible. I agree that history should be honest and true, but often time history is written by those who are either victorious in war, or have a power over the masses. Hopefully I helped somewhat.
