Lesson plan for private music teachers?

I have experience of teaching before, but now I am doing it on a more professional basis, and I wondered if anyone out there had any tips on what they do in their lessons? I have started with warming up, then going onto pieces - afterwards concentrating on something like tone or expression. I teach adults at the moment, but I’ll eventually be teaching children too.

I used a similar structure when teaching.

Warm up - few exercises. Then I reviewed what they’d done the previous lesson. Played the scales they’d been practicing and the pieces they’d been learning. See if they had any questions or concerns about the previous week. Picking up any points from what they’d been practicing and working on areas that were weaker. Then give them new things to work on for the next week (but depending on what needed work from the previous week).

I always gave a summary sheet at the end including things to practice for the week ahead, so they had a written record (some of my adults found it easy to forget what they were supposed to be practicing!

It varies a great deal from student to student, so just get stuck in and good luck!
