WEBSITE: http://www.teachertube.com Skypes easeofuse and video conferencing capability make it a hugely beneficial tool in helping students connect with others outside of the classroom walls. The greatest benefits for classroom use is that teachers can quickly and easily invite guests from all over the world to speak to their students. Additionally social studies and foreign language teachers can use Skype to connect with classes in other countries to share experiences in their native language and language arts teachers with the help of the school librarian can connect with the authors to share and read literature. A science teacher from another school or university could use Skypes video and audio resources connections to demonstrate the scientific process through various lab experiments. A zoologist could share the habitats of different animals while a doctor could discuss the impotents of sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

The short documentary video “Un-Natural State” looks at DC’s denial of democracy and asks the question of whether or not democracy is a natural part of society. The video won the prize for Best Editing in the 2006 International Documentary Challenge. It was produced by local filmmakers Kirk Mangels, Brad Mendelsohn and their team, Worthy Foes. On the day the text of President Obama’s speech to schoolchildren is released without “lesson plans”, Jim Greer again appears on CNN’s “Campbell Brown” show and upholds what he said earlier in the day on “The Situation Room.”

This time, however, Jim had company, as sub host John Robetrs welcomed alternate views from John Avlon and David Sirota. Avlon suggested Greer was “trying to spin a victory and do a ‘CYA’ move.” “It was an attempt to… turn the President into a fearful figure, and that’s shameful,” he said. And Sirota took Greer to task for criticizing Obama’s speech, and said that “parents who tuned into this speech because of the hysteria by people like Jim greer, are gonna read this speech, and realize that the Jim Greers of the world… are a bunch of psychopaths to try to make this into a giant controversy about socialist indoctrination.”
